Bioreactor- Fundamentals, Design & Applications

In order to understand Bioreactor, first we shall have to understand what bio-reaction is. So what is bio-reaction? From atoms to molecules, molecules react to form compounds; compounds make amino acids, amino acids forms proteins, from these proteins DNAs are developed and these DNAs gives rise to gene and Genes form chromosomes, thereafter chromosomes are assimilated in the mitochondria and the mitochondria is the power house of the cell—cell is the unit of life.

This completes the bio-reaction. If we think broadly, this earth is a vast self-tuned and an automatic bioreactor and we are the reacting components in it, used for a specific predetermined bio-reaction as mentioned above. So to specify the term bioreactor, we can conclude that, in a specific predetermined environment some biological reaction is carried out under a careful observation, that system is called a bioreactor. In this book we are going to discuss and study the bioreactors, their fundamentals, design and different applications.
